Description
An Elegant Victorian Buttonback Chaise-Longue with W Tonks & Sons metalware
This magnificent, Victorian chaise longue has been completely restored, from the base up, using time-honoured techniques and materials.
Our antique pieces are the ultimate in sustainability and heirlooms for future generations.
It has a solid mahogany frame and features traditional, hand-stitched rolled edges, bridle ties securing new horsehair, fresh hessian and cotton felt.
The chaise is currently upholstered to (FR) calico, thus allowing a client to select a fabric of their choice, making it a truly bespoke piece for generations to come.
The brass castors are stamped W. Tonks. The firm was founded in 1789 (or 1794?). At the 1851 and 1862 Exhibitions in London and in 1855 at Paris, they won gold medals. In the early 1860s, their larger factory was opened in Moseley Street. Most of items existing today, will generally date from after this time.
