Description
A breathtakingly expansive, vintage Harvey Probber sofa from 1950’s America.
This mid-century sofa features clean, modern lines with a curved front and back; creating an amazing sculptural and sweeping effect.
It is fitted with a loose squab cushion on an arched, solid hardwood, floating frame; all elegantly raised on wooden feet. This piece was built to last and would sit gracefully in any room. Ideally, place it in the centre of a room so that the curve may be fully appreciated.
The sofa has been professionally restored and reupholstered, by our master craftspeople, in an exquisite designer bouclé fabric by Rogers & Goffigon. In this eco-friendly conscious world, we selected fabric made from all-natural fibres; 65% Wool, 20% Cotton and 15% Silk.
Harvey Probber was one of America’s leading designers in the middle of the twentieth century. Using exotic woods, highly polished lacquer, hand-rubbed finishes and opulent upholstery fabrics he created exceedingly desirable furniture.
His designs were modern yet elegant, with the most pleasing of proportions. Even the largest of Harvey Probber’s sofas has a feeling of lightness, as he ‘floated’ them on concealed feet.
An original Harvey Probber sofa is an exceptionally rare and collectable find, particularly in Europe. We are fortunate to have acquired this piece and to have had the opportunity to return it to its former mid-century glory.
Beginning with just a suitcase filled with samples, Rogers & Goffigon was established by John Flynn and James Gould in 1988. Over three decades later, the company is now firmly established and has a world-wide group of suppliers and designers. Each utilise Rogers & Goffigon’s exquisite, trade-only fabrics in projects ranging from architecturally renowned homes to high-end hotels and important museums.
Working with some of the oldest mills in Europe, Rogers & Goffigon’s impeccable fabrics and high-quality trimmings are made using traditional, centuries-old techniques. The company is headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut and has numerous showrooms around the globe, with an exclusive showroom in the D & D Building in New York City.
