Description
An Aesthetic Movement chair in Jacobean style, with an ebonised beech frame, and a copper and rouge silk-covered fixed seat. The piece has been hand-finished with a trim by Houlès, Paris.
Beautifully restored by our skilled craftspeople, the seat has been re-webbed and has fresh hessian, horsehair (secured by bridle ties), cotton felt and FR calico. The wood has been cleaned, traditionally waxed and buffed.
The exquisitely rich woven silk, from Rubelli, is not available to the general public. Rubelli is one of the oldest fabric companies in the world and in their own words…
“The company came into being at the end of the nineteenth century when Lorenzo Rubelli took over Giobatta Trapolin’s firm, renowned for its production of braid, two-pile velvet, soprarizzo, lampas and brocade as reproductions of antique fabrics. Lorenzo Rubelli bought the firm in 1889 and it was an instant success.”
Houlès designs and creates the finest of trimmings and fabrics. Still family-owned, it was founded in Paris by father and son Félix and André Houlès in 1928.
The company, which began with one store at 18 rue Saint-Nicolas, is now established in over 160 countries.
Presidential residences and castles, such as le Château de Versailles, often select Houlès’ passements for their restoration projects.
