An Original Early Georgian ‘Steampunk-Style’ Chair In Ralph Lauren Fabric

£1,450.00

Contemporary meets traditional in this completely restored, early Georgian armchair.

Part-finished in a classic Ralph Lauren ticking fabric, the arms and sides have been left exposed to showcase the traditional workmanship.

Many weeks of work were spent, by our skilled craftspeople, to restore this piece. It was stripped back to its frame and damaged areas were traditionally re-glued.

It has been re-webbed, re-sprung and lashed. The springs have been hand-stitched to the fresh hessian and it has new horsehair (hand-secured with bridle ties), cotton felt and FR cotton calico. The newly hand-stitched, rolled edges have been created using natural coir fibre stuffing.

We are happy to schedule a virtual viewing for this piece, answering any questions you may have, should you be unable to view it in person.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

Description

Contemporary and traditional forms harmoniously unite in this original, early Georgian armchair.

The seat and inner back have been finished in a classic Ralph Lauren ticking fabric, whilst the arms have been left uncovered. The latter allows the traditional workmanship to be displayed; this includes exposed webbing, tacks, hessian and hand-stitched rolled-edges.

The outer back of this antique Georgian chair has been given an unexpected twist by using a cheerfully-coloured, eco-friendly coffee sack.

Georgian furniture-design style began around 1800 and remained the principal form until the death of George IV in 1830. The Regency style fell between the years 1811 to 1820.

Steampunk is a meeting of the past and the present that blends a distinctive, traditional grace with a contemporary edge.
