Description

An elegant pair of Wylie & Lochhead oak recliners, c. 1900.

Topped with finials, the supporting back and legs are beautifully turned and feature four decorative ‘straps’ beneath each arm.

The chairs have been fully restored, by our master craftspeople, using traditional techniques and have been reupholstered with an exquisite Nobilis fabric. The striking weave is a duet of iridescent and matte orange and turquoise, reminiscent of Japanese Origami.

Wylie & Lochhead was founded in 1829 by Robert Wylie and William Lochhead. Both gentlemen were cabinetmakers and were initially known as coffin builders.

Their success soared, however, when they began to produce avant-garde furniture; this shift made Wylie & Lochhead a household name in the early 19th century.  They commissioned pieces from the best European and English designers, and nurtured new Scottish designers such as E.A. Taylor, John Ednie and George Logan.

Such was the quality of their furniture that it was exhibited alongside pieces by ‘The Four’ (Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Margaret Macdonald, Frances Macdonald and Herbert McNair).

The house of Nobilis was established in 1928 at Rue Bonaparte, Paris.  The brand quickly became synonymous with luxury, innovative design, quality and good taste.  From its beginning to this day, Nobilis’ fabrics and wallpapers continue to inspire and mirror the emotion and feelings of the time.
