Description

The chair has been completely restored and features a magnificent squab cushion in a fabric by Manuel Canovas.

The cushion is a natural, dyed linen with embroidered garlands of flowers, inspired by a traditional Provençal design.

William Birch was a furniture designer who specialised in chair making in the Arts & Crafts style. Renowned for his rush and cane seating, over a century later, these pieces are still highly prized for their comfort.

Birch supplied furniture to Liberty & Co of London. Both companies saw the value in mirroring the original Arts & Crafts style but at a more accessible price-point than the custom-made pieces by William Morris and his contemporaries of the ‘Cotswold School’.

Renowned for their vibrant colour harmonies and stylish prints, the Manuel Canovas studio is overseen by a highly experienced design team. They channel an expressive vision to create bold designs that are chic, rich, and boast striking harmonies of colour.

Faithful to the French art de vivre, with a touch of 18th-century nostalgia, Canovas’ fabulous designs are inspired by journeys to exotic locations and rare archival documents.

Manuel Canovas, which was founded in 1963, was acquired by the illustrious Colefax and Fowler company in 1998.
