Description

Make a statement with this beautiful, mahogany armchair from the 1920s. Many weeks were spent fully restoring this piece. It has new hessian, horsehair (secured by bridle ties), cotton felt and FR calico.

The chair has been reupholstered in a sumptuous, powder blue, velvet from Dedar, Milano; elegantly hand-finished with a refined trim by Houlès, Paris.

A caned, rectangular back gracefully extends to beautifully carved arms. The carving also features on the front and side rails, and ball feet.

The soft and extremely comfortable cushions have been custome-made for the chair and filled with the softest down feathers, housed in a fine cambric ‘case’. Cambric, a finely woven cotton, is used to prevent the feathers from escaping through to the finished fabric.

Houlès designs and creates the finest of trimmings and fabrics. Still family-owned, the  company was established in Paris, by father and son Félix and André Houlès, in 1928. The company, which began with one store at 18 rue Saint-Nicolas, is now established in over 160 countries.

Presidential residences and castles, such as le Château de Versailles, often select Houlès’ passements for their restoration projects.
